Natural Language Processing – Lesson 4

(Surface Structure of Research Articles and Deep Structure of Research Article Titles)

The Research Article Title

The research article title is the most important part of the research article.

It is usually written to describe the most important parts of the research article:

a) Name of new algorithm/method/approach etc. d) Limits of research (scope)

b) Description of new algorithm/method/approach etc. e) Method used in research

c) General area of research (topic) f) Applications of research

It also usually contains important Keywords, so it can be found on internet searches etc.

The different parts of the title are usually linked together using words like ‘for’, ‘by’, ‘with’ etc.
